I have just installed a sitemap generator script for wordpress at my blog. It can dynamically generate a simple sitemap for all your posts, Google Sitemaps in xml format and Google Sitemaps in gz format.
The script is create by dirkz. You can download the source file in tgz format at http://dirkz.com/google-sitemaps/.
The installation is pretty simple:
- Download and extract so that you end up with wp-content/plugins/google-sitemaps/google-sitemaps.php in your blog filesystem.
- Activate it.
- Refresh your permalinks rewrite by accessing it the admin panel (Options -> Permalinks). Repeat this step when you change your template, if you want to see the changes reflect on your old school sitemap.
These are the sitemap URLs after the installation:
- Sitemap –
http://www.szehau.com/sitemap/
- Google Sitemaps (xml) –
http://www.szehau.com/sitemap.xml
- Google Sitemaps (gz) –
http://www.szehau.com/sitemap.xml.gz
After that, I submitted http://www.szehau.com/sitemap.xml.gz to Google Sitemaps and hopefully Google will come to my site and update my site more frequently.
Anyway, what is Google Sitemaps?
Google Sitemaps is an easy way for you to help improve your coverage in the Google index. It’s a collaborative crawling system that enables you to communicate directly with Google to keep us informed of all your web pages, and when you make changes to these pages.
